Week 1 EOC: My Voice

Narrative
My name is Ellis L. Satchell V. Born on November 25, 1992 in Seattle, Washington, where I was raised for the majority of my life. Moved to Las Vegas, Nevada with my dad and brother at the age of fifteen. Graduating with my high school diploma from Legacy High School in the summer of 2011.  Soon after I graduated, I enrolled at The Art Institute of Las Vegas, majoring in Visual Effects and Motion Graphics.

Growing up in Seattle, everywhere and everyone is exposed to the traditional life style of the arts; either through someone’s culture, education, or by simply driving down the street.  Most of my family was naturally gifted urban style artists and conceptual artists.  The person who truly inspired me to start drawing and becoming more influenced in art is my uncle. He was skilled in concept art, two-dimensional character animation, and conceptual story telling.  Every moment I got to see him during process of drawing, it looked as if he was giving the gift of life to each of his characters and their story.  I was fascinated by the vibrant hues of the characters’ color scheme, smelling the fragrance of the markers and pencils, the beauty of the line weight that designed a character, and the texture of my uncle’s finished art pieces.

And one day, he asked, “do you want to help me draw something?” of course I said “yes.” Filled with so much excitement, I run up to his desk and hopped on his lap. I grabbed the pencil and scribbled all over the paper. He laughed and held my hand steady with the pencil drawing in a curved motion. It was a circle! I was disappointed because I thought we were going to start drawing a cool character. He told me “every art piece needs to have a strong foundation with every shape you draw on your canvas. Practice drawing a circle and a square and come back every week to show me your progress.” In time, I improved enough to be able to draw little cartoon characters. I revealed promising talent in art when I got involved with Seattle School County’s art programs through elementary and middle school.  From that point on I knew I would become more involved with art.

I am inspired to expand my knowledge as an artist in Visual Effects and Motion Graphics. Motion Graphics is a passion that bestows gratified freedom toward unlocking my perspective of creativity. Where provide flexibility that can be adaptable within other fields of the Media Arts other than its own, such as; Animation, 3D Modeling, Digital Film and Video Production, and Graphic Design. I acknowledge the potential that it offers to further develop my skills and receive more options to job opportunities.  I don't view this particular field as just any regular form of art. I see Visual Effects and Motion Graphics as a bridge to connect to a person's imagination, to experience a "flat idea" brought to life with a visual flair that grabs the attention of others. A way to develop a connection to my audience; emotionally, physically and mentally, through Motion Graphics.

With a strong foundation in illustration and motion graphic design, I introduce a firm sense of design aesthetics on my career path in multi and social media.  I have special interests and skills in developing a creative aptitude for affective visual communication towards my audience and employers. I’m a driven, goal oriented individual with a strong desire to utilize my skills and expertise to create an impacting contribution to a productive company. Therefore, I am motivated to achieve my success and face new challenges by contributing skill sets within my career as a Motion Graphics artist to collaborate with an inventive development.
