In New York, the simple and naive just-graduated in journalism Andrea
Sachs is hired to work as the second assistant of the powerful and
sophisticated Miranda Priestly, the ruthless and merciless executive of
the Runway fashion magazine. Andrea dreams to become a journalist and
faces the opportunity as a temporary professional challenge. The first
assistant Emily advises Andrea about the behavior and preferences of
their cruel boss, and the stylist Nigel helps Andrea to dress more
adequately for the environment. Andrea changes her attitude and
behavior, affecting her private life and the relationship with her
boyfriend Nate, her family and friends. In the end, Andrea learns that
life is made of choices.
Not only does the film reveal
the challenges of obtaining job opportunities for women in a career,
but establishes some of the do's and don'ts when you are set and
present for a job interview. For example, Don't come to an interview in
casual attire similar to what Andrea was wearing in the film. Do your
research on the company you have applied beforehand so you can
understand the company and develop proper questions. Arrive 10 minutes
early prior to the interview start time or
earlier if the event or employer instructs you to do so. Treat other
people you encounter with courtesy and respect.
Their opinions of you might be solicited during
hiring decisions. Maintain good eye contact during the
interview. Be honest and be yourself — your best professional
self. Dishonesty gets discovered and is grounds
for withdrawing job offers and for firing. You
want a good match between yourself and your employer.
If you get hired by acting like someone other than yourself, you
and your employer will both be unhappy.
